What HEIs Look into Agents

When partnering with educational agents, universities seek professionalism, reliability, and ethical practice above all. Institutions expect agents to have a thorough understanding of their academic programs, admission requirements, and application procedures. They value agents who present accurate information, ensure that only genuine and eligible students are referred, and maintain consistent communication with university representatives. Universities also assess an agent’s track record, such as the number of successful student placements, visa approval rates, and overall student satisfaction. Maintaining transparency in marketing materials and avoiding false promises are key indicators of a trustworthy agent.

During the International Education Consultants Training Workshops (IECTW), we teach participants how to build and maintain strong relationships with universities by meeting institutional expectations. Agents learn about compliance standards, reporting requirements, and how to align recruitment activities with the university’s values and policies. Universities also look for agents who invest in staff training, follow ethical recruitment guidelines (such as those in the British Council or ICEF codes), and focus on long-term collaboration rather than short-term gains. In essence, universities prefer agents who act as responsible partners, representing their institutions with integrity and professionalism.
